The Pender Island Lions are doing their annual vision screening. The vision screening testing is said to be 97% effective for six common visual problems (lazy eye, crossed eyes, refractive issues, far and near sightedness, and astigmatism). The test is performed with about a metre distance between the device and the person being tested, and takes about 30 seconds in total. It is very much like a fancy camera, that will give a print-out if there are any issues. Nearly 1 in 4 children have some vision concerns. As nearly 80% of a child's learning is visual, it is very hard for most children to learn if they have undiagnosed vision issues. We delete all the information from the equipment, and pass any printouts to the school (if any are left with us), before we leave.
Since 1917, Lions Clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired, while also making a strong commitment to community and serving youth throughout the world. Our vision screening test does not replace eye testing at your eye-doctor. While the screening works best for those under 40, we will test anyone that wants their eyes screened.
We are also testing at the school on Wednesday January 16th. We would love to do the vision screening for you and all your family, and any of your children that are attending the High School that will may miss the scheduled screenings at the school next Wednesday.
