An Introduction to Zen Meditation

Saturday, January 18, 2020 - 12:00pm

Are you curious about meditation but not sure where to begin? Meditation calms the mind and offers a fuller spectrum of presence.
This 2 hour Zen workshop with Lena Del Mar will introduce you to techniques to quiet the mind using seated and walking meditation.
Zen is a lineage of Buddhist practice that places emphasis on what is referred to as “beginner’s mind,” a mind that is receptive to the present moment in a way that is fresh and unclouded by preconceptions and preoccupations.
We will explore a few seated positions to support your comfort. There will be ample time for questions and discussion. Please wear comfortable clothing. The yoga room will be at a regular room temperature for this offering. All chairs, cushions and props will be provided for you. If you have any questions about this workshop please contact
There will be a follow up 4 week Zen series in the spring for participants who are interested in learning more and establishing a regular meditation practice.
Lena is a student of Eihei Peter Levitt and is ordained in the Soto Zen tradition. Lena weaves elemental themes into her yoga classes and meditations and sprinkles Spanish into everything. From roots to blossoms, Lena brings traditional yoga teachings to life and embodies her mission of helping others to awaken. She lives a homestead/permaculture inspired life on Salt Spring Island with her husband Joel.
Lena is certified in the instruction of Modo Level 1 & 2 (700 hours), Yin (80 hours), Vinyasa (200 hours) and has taught and attended a multitude of retreats, intensives and specialty workshops.
