Cedar Grove Studio & Gallery

Cozy Season

Listing Information

A beautiful open-air gallery nestled among majestic red cedars, Sandra Dolph’s Japanese-inspired pottery is thoughtfully displayed in a setting that reflects her deep connection to place and process. Sandra began her artistic career after earning a Bachelor of Science in Art Education in 1971, teaching and operating a gallery in upstate New York before immigrating to Canada and establishing a clay studio in the Rockies.

Since relocating to Galiano Island in 1989, Sandra has built her home, studio, and gallery within the island’s coastal forest. Her practice is shaped by decades of teaching, workshops, apprenticeships, and ongoing study in Japan, where she has worked and meditated in a Zen Buddhist temple. Known for her international reputation, Sandra’s ceramic work draws inspiration from the west coast landscape, using rich underglazes, terra sigillatas, and her signature lichen glaze to evoke sea, forest, and sky. Natural textures and materials gathered from her daily walks on Galiano Island give her work a quietly vibrant, earthy presence.
