Privacy Policy
The Southern Gulf Islands Tourism Partnership runs southerngulfislands.com to help people plan trips to Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Saturna, and Salt Spring. To do that, we collect a small amount of information about the people who visit the site and sign up to hear from us. This page explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We follow Canada’s federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

What we collect and why
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. When you enter a contest, request travel materials, or fill out a form, we sometimes also collect your name and mailing address. We use this to send you what you asked for, run and fulfill contests, and answer your questions.
When you browse the site, we gather standard analytics data such as which pages you view, the device and browser you use, roughly where you’re connecting from, and how you found us. This is aggregate. It tells us what people find useful so we can make the site better.
Cookies and tracking
The site uses cookies and similar tools, in three groups.
Essential cookies keep the site working. Analytics cookies, which run through Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, show us how the site is used overall. Advertising cookies come from a Meta pixel and Google Ads. These let us show Southern Gulf Islands ads to people who’ve already visited us, on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and across the web, and they can follow your activity from site to site.
You control all of this. Your browser can block or clear cookies. You can adjust Google’s ad settings at the Google Ad Settings page, manage Meta’s at your Facebook ad preferences, and opt out of many advertising cookies at once through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site.
Email and your consent
We only email you if you signed up for it. Every email we send has a one-click unsubscribe, and we act on it. We use Constant Contact to manage our list. We don’t sell or rent your email address to anyone.
Who we share information with
We don’t share your personal information. We rely on a few trusted providers to run the site and our communications, and they only receive what they need to do their job. Google handles our analytics and some advertising, Meta handles advertising, and Constant Contact handles our email.
Some pages include content from other platforms, such as YouTube videos or Instagram and Facebook feeds. That embedded content can collect information about you as if you’d visited those platforms directly. And when you click a link that takes you off our site, to an operator, a booking page, or a social account, that site’s privacy policy applies, not ours.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose you gave it to us, or as long as the law requires, and then we remove it. Newsletter subscriptions stay active until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is aggregate and kept according to our Google Analytics settings.
Your rights
Under BC’s privacy law, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can withdraw your consent at any time, including by unsubscribing. Email us at info@southerngulfislands.com and we’ll respond within a reasonable time, and no later than the 30 business days the law allows.
How we protect your information
We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information we hold, limit who on our team can access it, and only keep it as long as we need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the trust you place in us seriously.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page from time to time as our tools or practices change. The date at the top shows the last revision. If we make a significant change, we’ll make it easy to notice.
