A 2-Day Hiking Trip to Pender

Read Below

Pender Island might be only 34 square kilometres, but you’d be surprised by just how many great trails exist across the North and South islands. From Roesland to Mount Menzies to the Enchanted Forest, Pender Island hikes offer a little something for every ability. Pack your day bag, grab some locally-made fuel from the Farmer’s Market, and hit the trails.

What To Expect?

Heights of land on Pender can offer 360-degree views of the Southern Gulf Islands, the San Juan Islands in the US, and the snow-crested peaks of the BC mainland.

The island is filled with trails leading to viewpoints, lighthouses, and reminders of its First Nations and pioneer history. Whether you’re looking for historic highlights, oceanside picnic spots, or wildlife-watching, Pender has it.

Cross over to South Pender to experience dramatic elevation gains, marine parks, and coastal wilderness.

Midday: Choose Your Afternoon Adventure

Depending on your energy levels, choose between a long coastal trek or a shorter, steep workout:

  • Option A (The Big Trek): Beaumont Marine Park

    • Details: Also starting from Ainslie Point Rd, this moderate 5.2km trail is the island’s longest. Climb over 110 meters of elevation along Bedwell Harbour, stopping at secluded, crystal-clear coves for a quiet, crowd-free picnic.
  • Option B (The Quick Climb): Oaks Bluff Trail
    • Time Required: ~30 to 45 minutes
