The story of Salt Spring Chocolate is one of quiet alchemy. For Rebecca Johnston, her mission runs deep, letting go of old ways that no longer work, to create space for fresh beginnings and a new heartfelt vision to empower love through the art and alchemy of chocolate.
It began when Rebecca first stepped onto her new chocolate path in March 2024, acquiring the business formerly called Harlan’s Fine Chocolates. She moved with care to learn about its local history and sought ways to revitalize it for the modern day, while still preserving its roots in community and craft. Drawing on 25 years of experience in business, food, and healing alchemy, Rebecca was intent on listening to and learning from customers as they shared their sweet memories of the shop and favourites from days gone by.
As a result, Rebecca was able to thoughtfully fine-tune and curate the product offerings to align with the sweet desires of the people and recenter its purpose to be about chocolate as a conduit for love and creating connections.
“Our world and our communities need more love and connection with each other, more than ever,” says Rebecca. “Giving and receiving Salt Spring Chocolate is a beautiful way to empower more love in the world, creating simple intentional moments of connection with each other.”
Under Rebecca’s heart-led leadership, Salt Spring Chocolate is taking chocolate-making beyond confectionery. “It is true that the energy that goes into chocolate can be felt. It is a creative and energetic art form that is heart-opening and creates feel-good emotions.
